Couponing Tip: Stocking Up

Couponing Tip: Stock Up

One of the most important and beneficial aspects of being a couponer is stocking up {buying multiples of the same item at once}. That's why you need at least 3 copies of the newspaper!

Why Stock Up?
  • No more running to the store when you're out of something (and paying FULL price!!)
  • Save BIG by buying in bulk when an item is at a rock bottom price!
  • Be equipped for the unexpected (job loss, pay cut, natural disaster) with a pantry full of groceries and personal care items.
  • Be able to give back to your community by donating things you got a great deal on that you wouldn't have been able to give otherwise.
When to Stock Up?
  • Generally, when an item is 50% off, buy enough for a 3 month supply.
  • If an item is 75% off or more {including FREE, or for profit} buy enough for a 6 month supply or more
  • Over time, you will come to learn how much things cost and youll have a mental stock up price for the things you buy.
To give you an idea, here are some of my stock up prices:

Item: 3 Month Stock-Up Price/ 6 Month Stock-Up Price
  • Toothbrushes: $0.25 / Free
  • Toothpaste: $0.25 / Free
  • Floss: $0.25 / Free
  • Men's Razors: $2.00 / $1.00
  • Body Wash: $0.75 / $0.25
  • Shampoo: $1.00 / $0.50
  • Paper Towels: $0.50 per roll / $0.25 per roll
  • Toilet Paper: $0.50 per roll / $0.20 per roll
  • Cereal: $1.25 / $0.70
  • Crackers: $1.25 / $0.50
  • Pasta: $0.25 / Free
  • Pasta Sauce: $1.00 / $0.50
  • 12 pk Soda: $2.00 / $1.25
Here are some pictures of my stockpile back in May, just a few months after I began couponing. I have it split between my garage and master closet & bathroom.

Keep in mind: you don't need to buy dozens of any one product at once. Just buy a realistic amount for the size of your family. Build your stockpile slowly.

And remember that every product has a sale cycle of approximately 3-4 months, meaning you'll see that same deal again! {So don't get too bummed if you missed out on a deal. It will be back soon enough}

Please be a kind couponer. Don't clear shelves or turn into a "hoarder" ;) Share the coupon love.
