How to Shop @ Walgreens: Register Rewards

How to Shop @ Walgreens:
Register Rewards Explained

Walgreens is by far the most COMPLICATED place to shop using coupons, but they have some of the BEST deals! So let me answer some frequently asked questions to help clear things up so you can get to SAVING BIG in no time!

What is a Register Reward (RR) and how do they work?

A Register Reward (abbreviated RR) is a $$-off coupon that prints out next to your receipt that you can use on your next purchase. It looks like this:
Register Rewards are the best and worst part about Walgreens...

RRs are great because you can "roll" them from one week to the next so that your out of pocket expense is really low. {Earn $5 RR this week, use it to save $5 next week}

RRs are bad because they have some Rules attached to them...

* Rule #1: There are limits on RRs.
If I want to buy 4 Gillette Razors, and each one earns a $5 RR, I will need to buy them in 4 Separate Transactions.

There is usually a limit of 1 RR per item, per transaction. If you buy them all in 1 transaction, only ONE RR will print out.

* Rule #2: RRs should NOT be used to purchase more of the same item.
For example, if I purchase a Skintimate Shave Cream and earn a $1 RR, I can not turn around and buy a second Skintimate Shave Cream with that RR. If you do, the next RR will NOT print out. {Sneaky, I know}

Each RR will have "compliments of {brand}" written on it, so you can remember where it came from.

* Rule #3: RRs are considered a manufacturer coupon.
ALL stores allow only ONE manufacturer coupon per item.

SO... if you want to use your RRs on your next purchase, but you already have manufacturer coupons for the items you are buying, you will need a Filler Item {something inexpensive, like a caramel, pencil or candy--under 35 cents is best}

The simplest way to figure it out is to...
1. Count the number of products you are purchasing.
2. Count the number of manufacturer coupons and RRs you want to use.
3. Make sure you don't have more coupons and RRs than products! If you do, grab a filler item!

The GOOD news is... Walgreens DOES allow you to stack a Store coupon {in-ad coupons and ones from their monthly booklet} with a manufacturer coupon and it doesn't require a filler.

I hope that cleared some things up about how to use Register Rewards. If your head is still spinning, I completely understand! It does take time and practice to get the hang of it.
